About me

I know many people in the ward already, and I hope to get to know many more of you over my time as one of your two Councillors. Here's a bit about me.

My Mum's family are from Wrexham, and my Dad's lot are from Gobowen. Just before I was born my folks moved to Derby, and as a child we moved around the midlands a bit, before coming back to Wrexham in the late 1980s.

After living in Penycae and Hightown I eventually made Brymbo my home in 2005. I live here with my wife Karen and our daughter - who went to St Mary’s primary in Brymbo. I've been a parent governor there as well as at my son’s former high school, Ysgol Clywedog.

Karen and I were married in St Mary's Church, and our daughter was Christened there.

I've worked extensively in and around Brymbo for over 30 years, most recently as part of Brymbo Heritage Trust and previously as Wrexham Council's community development manager.

I've helped a range of charities and social enterprises across Wales to secure funding, to grow and develop.

I've been involved in working-up national policies and programmes to help residents play the greatest role possible in the way decisions are made around them, particularly concerning poverty, community assets and green spaces.

I want to help us to help each other, to grow the roles we play in enriching the lives of all of us who live and work in our community. I'm keen to meet like-minded people along the way.

About Change4Brymbo

My wider interests

As well as being a County Borough Councillor I also work part-time for two local charities - Brymbo Heritage Trust and Caia Park Partnership. In both cases I report to boards of trustees as their overall charity manager ('Trust Manager' and 'Chief Officer' respectively).

Naturally, there are times when my three roles overlap - being involved in community development and regeneration they probably would, wouldn't they?

For each employer I am bound to follow a Code of Conduct which guides the way I ought to handle any conflicts of interest.

If you have concerns you can raise them in the following ways:

With Brymbo Heritage Trust you can email nick.amyes@brymboheritage.co.uk

With Caia Park Partnership you can email info@caiapark.org

With the Council the body to raise concerns with is the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales, and you can find out more about how to make your concern know here.

The Council also require all Councillors to complete and maintain a register of business interests. This is available to view on the Council's website here.

I'm also a keen musician and play guitar in Brymbo-based rock band Eight Foot Square (8ft2).
